HUSSAINI BRAHMINS

Brahmins have a long association with Iraq :

The presence in Arabia of many Aryans. Mostly Brahmins before the rise of Islam, has been recorded by the historian Sisir Kumar Mitra, in his book 'The Vision of India'. page 183. These people observed Aryan religious customs, including the worship of Shiv and Makresh from which the name of Mecca is said to have been derived. The famous astrologer Yavanacharya was born of one such Brahmin family. It was from these Brahmins that the Arabs learnt the science of Mathematics, Astrology, Algebra and decimal notation which were first developed in Bharat.

At the time of the war of Karbala (Oct. 680 AD). Rahab Sidh Datt, a potentate of Datt sect, was a highly esteemed figure of Arabia due to his close relations with the family of Prophet Mohammed. In the holy war when no Muslim King came to help Hussain. Rahab Dutt fought on his side.

Later on, when other Muslim section let loose an orgy of vendetta on Shias and Datts, Datts returned to their motherland around 700 AD and settled at Dina Nagar, District Sialkot (vide Bandobast Report of Gujarat by Mirza Azam Beg page 422 and folk songs) and some drifted to as far as the holy Pushkar in Rajasthan. Starting from Harya Bandar (modern Basra on the bank of river Tigris) with swords in hand and beating durms, they forced their way through Syria and Asia Minor and marching onwards captured Ghazni, Balkh and Bukhara. After annexing Kandhar, they converged on Sind and crossing the Sind they entered the Punjab.

An ancestor of Rahab named Sidh Viyog Datt assumed the title of Sultan and made Arabia (old name Iraq) his home. He was a tough and tenacious fighter. He was also known as Mir Sidhani. He was a worshipper of Brahma. He was the son of the stalwart Sidh Jhoja (Vaj) who was a savant and saint and lived in Arabia (Iraq) around 600 AD.

The supporters of Hassan and Hussain honored the Datts with the title of 'Hussaini Brahmin' and treated them with great reverence in grateful recognition of the supreme sacrifices made by them in the war of Karbala. According to Jang Nama, written by Ahmed Punjabi, pages 175-176, it was ordained on the Shias to recite the name of Rahab in their daily prayer. At the time to the Karbala, fourteen hundred Hussaini Brahmins lived in Baghdad alone.

Brief history of Karbala war :

During the war of Karbala between Nabi Mohammad Saheb's grandson Imam Husain and Yazid. When Imam Husian was cornered in Karbala near Daria-E-Furat now known as Hindiyah he wrote letter to his child hood friend Habib and another letter was written to A Aryan King.

This letter was written by Imam Husain's son Ali Ibn-E-Husain to his cousin brother Samudragupt the King of Bharat. This many sound strange that how can a Muslim be a Aryan's cousin brother.

Around 1400 Years back the king of Iran was of zoroastrian (Parsi) religion had 2 daughters Meher Bano and Shaher Bano.

Meher Bano was married to King Chandragupt and Meher Bano's name was renamed to Chandralekha. After few years Chandralekha's younger sister Shaher Bano was married to Imam Husain. Chandralekha and Chandragupt had a son called Samudragupt and was the King of Bharat when he got letter from his cousin brother Ali Ibn-E-Husain.

King Samudragupt swiftly arranged a group of brave soldiers and sent them to Karbala. The commander of that army was Rehab Dutt who was also a Mohyal Brahman. It is said that when Rehab Dutt reached Karbala it was too later and Imam Husain was martyred.

To avenge death of Imam Husain's death Rehab Dutt's army joined hands with a Arab named Janab-E-Mukhtar who was admirer of Imam Husain and they fought a memorable battle with the army of Yazid.
The place where Rehab Dutt's army stayed in Karbala is known as Dayar-E-Hind also known as Hindiyah and even at present times this place is known as Hindiyah in Iraq.

Some of these Brahmins got martyred in Karbala, some stayed in Karbala and some returned back to Bharat. History remembers these Brahmin's as Husaini Brahmins.

It is said that at the time of Karbala 1400 Hussaini Brahmins lived in Bagdad alone.

The Saraswat Brahmins also call themselves as Hussaini Brahmans as they were also part of Karbala war.

Panch Gaur Brahmins (five classes of north Bharat) are :

1. Saryupareen 2. Kanyakubja 3. Maithil 4. Saraswat and 5. Utkala.

Saraswat from Uttarapatha (Aryavart) (northern and eastern Bharat) are :

1. Kashmiri Pandits

2. Mohyal Brahmins

3. Rajapur Saraswat Brahmins

4. Gouda Saraswat Brahmins

5. Punjabi Saraswat Brahmins

6. Rajasthan Saraswat Brahmins

7. Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin

8. Nasarpuri Sindh Saraswat Brahmin

9. Brahmbhatt Brahmin

Audichya Sahastra Brahmins and Idhar Vyas family :

Saraswat Bhramins also have Gautam Gotra.

Audichya Sahastra Brahmins came from Kashmir and are Saraswat Brahmins. The word Audich means North i.e. Kashmir.

From this we can say that maybe ancestors (Idhar Vyas family) took part in war of Karbala.

Dates :

Karbala War : 680 AD

Mulraj Solanki called Audichya Sahastra Brahmins at around : 950 AD

950 - 680 = 270.

There is a possibility that Saraswat Bhramins stayed in Iraq for approx. 250 to 270 years and came back to Kashmir.

Note :

We do not know exactly how long Idhar Vyas ancestors stayed in Iraq, return date from Iraq to Kashmir and how long they stayed in Kashmir.
