Vadilal
Morarji Vyas (8/8/1894 - 13/1/1980). He was born in Wadhwan
to the parents Morarji and Laxmi Ba Vyas. His real name was
Damodar which he changed to Vadilal. He had four brothers Dr.
Ambashankar, Harishankar, Gaurishankar and Keshav ji. He had
two sisters Kesar Ben and Reva Ben. He lost his parents at the
age of 3 and his elder brother Dr. Ambashankar and his wife
Godaveri Ba raised him up and got him married and got him a
house to live in.
Vadilal
was married to Ruxmani and he has 4 sons Trambaklal who got married
to Rama ben, Ashvin Kumar who got married to Indira ben, Prataprai
(Bachu Bhai) who got married to Harbala ben. Vadilal also had
3 daughters Jasu ben who got married to Venishankar, Pramila who
got married to Anantrai and Mrudula ben who got married to Gunvantrai.
In
Sanand state he started his service in the Management. There he
read an Advertisement about job in Africa and went there in 1921
to Daresalem in East Africa and joined His Majesty's customs head
office. for best work he got many promotions and in 1945 he retired
from the service and came back to Wadhwan with his wife Rukshmani
and received pension from the British Government till his death.
He
was honest, hard working, loving, truthful, punctual and painstaking
by nature. After coming to Wadhwan he became the Secretary of
Brahmin Caste and worked for many years. At that time the chairman
of the Municipality was the Collector of Surendranagar to help
him the government had appointed Vadilal as he was an honest and
un-biased.
When
Wadhwan was given Elected Municipality, Vadilal was elected unanimously
and without any opposition became the first president of the elected
Municipality of Wadhwan. After many years a town hall was built
in Wadhwan and as the first elected municipal president Vadilal's
photograph was inaugurated which is there till today.
Because of his unselfish public service he was called Vadi Bhai
out of love and because of his Prestige he was appointed as Honorary
member in many government committee's like civil supplies committe.
He
had three sons Trambaklal, Ashvin Kumar and Prataprai (Bachu Bhai).
He also had three daughters Jasumati (Jyotsna), Premila and Annapurna
(Mrudula).
His
wife Rukshmani expired on Friday 12/8/1966 ie. Shravan Vad Agarayas
which was Purshotam mas uttering Narayan.
After that
Vadilal left Wadhwan and resided in Ahmedabad with his sons
and expired on 13/1/1980.
