Sabha Parv, Mahabharat / Book II Chapter 29 mentions the deeds and
triumphs of Nakul and locates Trigarts along with Dasarns, the Shivis,
the Amvashts, the Malavs, the five tribes of the Karnats around
Rohtak in Haryana.
Vaisampayan
said,--"I shall now recite to you the deeds and triumphs of
Nakul, and how that exalted one conquered the direction that had
once been subjugated by Vasudev. The intelligent Nakul, surrounded
by a large host, set out from Khandavprasth for the west, making
this earth tremble with the shouts and the leonine roars of the
warriors and the deep rattle of chariot wheels. And the hero first
assailed the mountainous country called Rohitak that was dear unto
(the celestial generalissimo) Kartikeya and which was delightful
and prosperous and full of kine and every kind of wealth and produce.
And the encounter the son of Pandu had with the Mattamyuraks
of that country was fierce. And the illustrious Nakul after this,
subjugated the whole of the desert country and the region known
as Sairishak full of plenty, as also that other one called Mahett.
And the hero had a fierce encounter with the royal sage Akros. And
the son of Pandu left that part of the country having subjugated
the Dasarns, the Shivis, the Trigarts, the Amvashts, the Malavs,
the five tribes of the Karnatas, and those twice born classes that
were called the Madhyamakeys and Vattadhans. And making circuitous
journey that bull among men then conquered the (Malech) tribes called
the Utsav-sanketa".
Sanketa
:
They are to be compared with the (Utsava) Sanketa of Mahabharat,
where Arjun conquers them along with the Suhm and Chola in the North.
The Suhm are the Summa of Sindh at the time of Arab invasion, and
the Chola / Chahla clan, respectively. The Sanketas were in the
west also. Sanskrit English Dictionary ( M. Williams) defines Sanketa
as the name of a people.
Bhisma Parv, Mahabharat / Book VI Chapter 46 mentions Dasharn in
War :
"And
king Drupada, surrounded by a large number of troops, became the
head (of that array). And the two kings Kuntibhoj and Saivya became
its two eyes. And the ruler of the Dasharns, and the Prayags, with
the Dasheraks, and the Anupaks, and the Kirats were placed in its
neck".
