In Mahavansh :

Mahavansh / Chapter 21 tells ...Mahäsiv's younger brother, Suratissa, reigned after his death ten years, zealously mindful of meritorious works. In the southern quarter (of the city) he founded the Nagarangan-vihar, in the eastern quarter the vibär (called) Hatthikkhandh and the Gonnagirik (vihar) on the Vangutrar-mountain the (vihär) named Pacinapabbat and near Raherak the (vihär) Kolambahalak; at the foot of the Aritth (mountain) the Makulak (vihär), to the east the Acchagallak (vihar), but the Girinelavahanak (vihar) to the north of Kandanagar; these and other pleasing vihars, in number five hundred, did the lord of the earth build on this and the further bank of the river, here and there in the island of Lanka, before and while he reigned, during the period of sixty years, piously and justly, devoted to the three gems. Suvannapindtiss was his name before his reign, but he was named Süratiss after the beginning of the reign.

Two Damils, Sen and Guttik, sons of a freighter who brought horses hither,' conquered the king Süratiss, at the head of a great army and reigned both (together) twenty-two years justly. But when Asel had overpowered them, the son of Mutasiv, the ninth among his brothers, born of the same mother, he ruled for ten years onward from that time in Anuradhapur.

Mahavansh / Chapter 23 tells.... King Kakvannatiss caused a guard to hold the Damils in check to be kept continually at all the fords of the Mahäganga. Now the king had, by another wife, a son named Dighabhaya; and he gave the guard near the Kacchak ford into his charge. And to form the guard this (prince) commanded each noble family within a distance of two yojans round (to send) one son thither. Within the district of Kotthivala, in the village of Khandkavitthik, lived the chief of a clan the headman named Samgh who had seven sons. To him, too, the prince sent a messenger demanding a son. His seventh son named Nimil had the strength of ten elephants. ....The king gave him (into the service of) the prince Gamani, and with high honours the warrior Sür Nimil took up his abode with him. (Sür Nimil ? Sur)

History :

Hukum Singh Panwar has given the ancestry of Bharatpur rulers starting from 1. Yadu. Shur is at S.No. 37 and Krishna at S.No. 43 as under :

34. Andhaka → 35. Bhajman → 36. Vidurath → 37. Shur → 38. Shini → 39. Bhoj → 40. Hardik → 41. Devamidh → 42. Vasudev → 43. Krishna → 44. Pradyumn.

Shoor people were the rulers of Bateshwar. They were so powerful that the entire country was named Shaursain after them. Shaursaini people were at Bharatpur, whose one branch was known as Sewar / Sevar.

Mahabharat mentions a Suryasur and obviously not for the sun (Surya) but for the Sura people Darad (the Darar clan people) a king of Bahlik was born from Surya. The Sur Kings came for Yudhisthir’s Ashwamegh Yagya.

The Mahabharat Tribe - Sura may be identified with Jat Gotra - Shur.

Megasthenes has mentioned them as Suari in his book Indica.

Shur: Thakur Deshraj :

Thakur Deshraj has written .... Shur - He is also remembered by the name of Saursen. After the Mahabharat, they also had two teams. The capital of one party was Mathura. A few days later Shauraseni language (Sinsini carved). Out of these, Vijaydev made Bayan his capital. Their second community was inhabited between Soron and Bateshwar.

History of Shursen-Shur :

Dalip Singh Ahlawat writes :

This is the Chandravanshi Jat gotra which has been well known since the Ramayan period. Sugriv ordered the army of monkeys to go north to Shursen, Bharat (Indraprasth region), Kuru etc. countries (v Kishkindhandak Canto 43) to search for Sita. Shatrughan killed Madhuputra Lavanasur and settled the city of Mathura. His sons Subahu and Shursen ruled Mathura. Shatrughan fully settled the Shursen district and its capital Madhurapuri (Mathura). (V. Uttarakhand Canto 70, 108).

In the Mahabharat period there were two states in his tree. These people were merged into the knowledge union created by Krishna ji. These people participated in the Mahabharat war. After the Mahabharat, they had two teams. The capital of one party was Mathura. A few days later these people made the village of Cincini (maiden name Shurseni) near Deeg their capital. Among these people, Vijaydev made Bayan his capital. Their second community was inhabited between Soron and Bateshwar. The influence and civilization of the Shursen Jats grew so much that the language spoken in northern India was called Shurseni by their name. The Shurseni language is the language spoken from Etawah to Mandsaur and from Palwal to Ratlam. (Jat history Page 132, author Tha Deshraj)

There were 16 Mahajanpads (kingdoms) in India during the Buddhist period, including a Shursen kingdom. These Shur Jats fought the Mughals. The brave warrior Gokul was born in this village of Cincinnati, who fought with Aurangzeb with great valor and courage and was finally caught.

But he refused to become a Muslim and became a martyr. The tribe of the King of Bharatpur was Shursen, which was later called Cincinni or Cincinnavar. All these things will be described in detail in Bharatpur State Chapter.

Today Shurasenas-Sinsinwars tribe Jat Vrij and u p are a large number.
