Kauravya was name of a Janapad and were people of the same name known to Panini and mentioned in Mahabharat. Kauravya was name of a Nagavanshi king.

History :

V. S. Agrawala writes that Ashtadhyayi of Panini mentions janpad Kauravya under Bhargadi (IV.1.178).

 

V. S. Agrawala writes that Panini mentions Kshatriya caste in connection with Gotras, janpads and sanghas. For example the Kuru Gotra appeared both in Brahmans (IV.1.151) and Kshatriyas (IV.1.172). If the father was a Brahmana, he and his young (yuvan) son were both called Kauravya but if Kshatriya they would be Kauravya and Kauravyayani (II.4.58, Kashik).

 

In Mahabharat :

Kauravya is mentioned in Mahabharat (I.31.13), (I.52.11), (II.28.33), (II.31.8), (II.48.24), (V.101.15), (VI.10.53), (VIII.23.25), (VIII.30.73), (IX.45.9).

 

Adi Parva, Mahabharata / Mahabharat Book I Chapter 31 mentions names of Chief Nagas. Kauravya is included in verse (I.31.13).

 

Adi Parva, Mahabharat / Mahabharat Book I Chapter 52 mentions Names of all those Nagas that fell into the fire of the snake-sacrifice. Kauravya is included in verse (I.52.11). Nagas of the race Kauravya: Now hear, the names of the snakes I mention born in the race of Kauravya: Aindil, Kundal, Mund, Veniskandh, Kumarak, Bahuk, Shringaveg, Dhurtak, Patapatar and Astak. There born in the race of Kauravya fell into the fire.

 

Sabha Parv, Mahabharat / Book II Chapter 31 mentions Kshatriyas brought tributes on Rajasuya Yagya of Yudhisthir. Kauravya is included in verse (II.31.8).

 

Sabha Parv, Mahabharat / Book II Chapter 48 describes Kings who presented tributes to Yudhishthir. Kauravya is included in verse (II.48.24).

 

Vana Parv, Mahabharat / Book III Chapter 48 describes Rajasuya sacrifice of Yudhisthir attended by the chiefs of many islands and countries. Kauravya is included in verse (III.48.24)...."I shall, O chief of the Kurus, assisted by Ram and Bhim and Arjun and the twins and Akrur and Gad and Shamv and Pradyumn".

 

Udyog Parv / Mahabharat Book V Chapter 101 mentions Bhogavati city and innumerable Nagas. Kauravya is included in verse (V.101.15).

 

Bhisma Parv, Mahabharat / Book VI Chapter 10 Describes geography and provinces of Bharatvarsh. Kauravya as a province is included in verse (VI.10.53). "the Darviks, the Kachs, the Darvas, the Vatajams, the Rathorags, Bahuvadyas, the Kauravyas, the Sudamans, the Sumalliks".

 

Karna Parv / Mahabharat Book VIII Chapter 23 mentions Kauravya in verse (VIII.23.25).

 

Karna Parv / Mahabharat Book VIII Chapter 30 gives description blaming the Vahiks and Madraks. Kauraveya is included in verse (VIII.30.73).

 

Sabha Parv, Mahabharat / Book II Chapter 28 mentions Sahdev's march towards south: kings and tribes defeated. Kauraveya is included in verse (II.28.33).

 

Shalya Parv, Mahabharat / Book IX Chapter 45 gives List of the mothers who became the companions when Skand was installed. Kauraveya is included in verse (IX.45.9).
