Alarka, Alark, Alarik was a Chandravanshi King descended from Pururava.

 

Ancestry of Alarka

Pururava → Ayu → Kshatra Vriddh → Suhotra → Kasya ? Kashi → Rashtra → Dirghatama → Dhanvantari → Ketumat → Bhimarath → Divodas → Dyumat (Also called Pratardan Satrujit and Ritadgvaj) → Alark + Others

 

In Mahabharat :

Anushashan Parv / Book XIII Chapter 115 (shlok 68) mentions Alark in the list of Kings abstained from eating meat during shradh period.

 

Ashwamegh Parv, Mahabharat / Book 14 Chapter 30 narrates ancient history of Alark and importance of Yog.

 

In Ramayan :

Then Dasharath was overwhelmed with grief and swooned away, and, coming to himself again, he prayed Kaikeyi to waive her right.

 

..."Alarka, that gave his eyes to a Brahman."

Mandasor Pillar Inscription of Yashodharman :


Mandasor Pillar Inscription of Yashodharman mentiona Alarka in Line-3 as unser :

 

..."he in whom, possessed of a wealth of virtue, (and so) falling but little short of Manu and Bharat and Alark and Mandhatri, the title of "universal sovereign" shines more (than in any other), like a resplendent level (set) in good gold."
