On
Day two Bhishma was protected by Dron, Kritavarman, Ashwathama and
Kripacharya. On the beak of Garud array was Bhishma. Dron and Kritavarma
formed its eyes. Ashwathama, Kripacharya, Trigarts, Matsyas (Matsyas
under the Trigart rule) and Kekayas formed its head. Bhurisravs,
Sal, Shalya, Bhagadatt, Jayadrath, Madraks, Sindhus, Souvirs, Panch-nods
and the Vatadhans formed
its neck. Duryodhan and his brothers formed its back. Vind, Anuvind,
Kambojs, Sakas and Surasens formed its tail. Magadhs, Kalings and
Daseraks formed its right wing. Vrithadval, Karushs,
Vikunjs, Munds, Kaundivrishs formed its left wing.
Comment
: Munds here probably refers to mund Yavan/Kamboj soldiers of Sudakshin's
army. Thus a section of the mund Kambojs / Yavans probably formed
its left flank also. (for munda Kambojs, see: mundanetn...Kambojnev
(MBH 7.119.26-27); cf: Kamboj mund Yavan mund (Ganpath on Panini).
The
heroes of the Pandav army in Day Three :
(MBh 6.56)
On
the right horn of the array Bhim stood surrounded by kings of many
countries. He was followed by Virat, Drupad and Nil. Next to Nil
was the mighty car-warrior Dhrishtaketu, surrounded by the Chedis,
the Kashis, the Karushs, and the Pauravs (The earliest kings of
Chedi were Pauravs, so one of the Chedi chief was called a Paurava,
a direct descendant in the line of Puru). Dhrishtadyumn, and Sikhandi,
with the Panchals and the Prabhadraks, and supported by other troops,
were stationed in the middle. Yudhisthir stood surrounded by an
elephant division in the middle. Next to him was Satyaki, Draupadi's
sons, Iravat, and Ghatotkach. Arjun formed the left horn.

The highlight of the Day Three fight was that Krishna took his Sudarshan

promised to fight with more vigour in the battle field. That exactly
was the motive behind this act of Krishna.
